Looking at Everyone’s Anatomy Workshop

Continuing Education and Advanced Practitioners

Every single student is different with a unique anatomy, strengths and challenges. We’ll take a look at common poses in different body types and how to adjust the poses specifically for each person. Developing a keen eye is key.

SATURDAY 8/29 // 2:30 – 5pm

Practice Makes Progress Workshop

An intensive look at how to distinguish a clear path to more advanced poses such as arm balances, inversions, and more complex backbends

——

SUNDAY 8/30 // 9 – 12pm

Arm Balances Workshop

 All levels

No one should be left out in class when an arm balance is mentioned. We’ll look at a few of the most complex arm balances and break them down into smaller chunks that will become achievable as you practice them over time.

SUNDAY 8/30 // 2 – 4:30pm

Hip Openers – Pigeon and WAY Beyond Workshop

All levels

Open hips mean much more than being able to do pigeon with ease. Open and strong hips make many of the most sought after poses possible. The hip is directly related to the health of the lower back making it an important joint to understand in yourself and in students. A joint with many different movements that can be affected by many different muscles make the hip complex. Time will be spent looking at the anatomy of the hip in lecture in a detailed but easy to understand. We will then look at all the different hip positions and where the limitations and weaknesses may occur as related to asana. By the end students will know how to work towards their goals in their hips wisely.

11/9: Yin & Yoga Nidra Workshop with April Mueller

yoganidra1Sunday 11/9

2 – 4pm

Yin yoga is one of the most healing forms of yoga for the body, mind and soul. Unlike the muscular yang practice of most yoga classes today, Yin yoga poses are held for 3-5 minutes commonly seated or lying down, using props so that the muscles can soften and relax. This allows the deep connective tissue to open which can release emotional and/or physical scar tissue and trapped energy. Yoga Nidra, also known as yogic sleep or sleep with awareness, is a guided meditation that brings you to a state of consciousness between wake and sleep and full body relaxation. Join April to experience the physical, emotional and spiritual benefits of this beautiful combination of Yin Yoga and Yoga Nidra. You will first be guided through a 90-minute themed Yin Yoga class that will relax and prepare your body and mind for a 30-minute Yoga Nidra guided meditation that will leave you feeling refreshed and revitalized yet still grounded.

$25 per person

Donation Meditation Class this Sunday!

medium_MeditationThis Sunday 11/3 from 7 – 8pm kicks off our first DONATION MEDITATION CLASS led by Mel Johnson!

Learn more about Mel below:

As a student of some fabulously-brutally honest girlfriends, world travel, her awesome adviser, and various Yogis and Yoginis, Yogic philosophy runs through her veins and lungs. Mel believes that immersing herself in other cultures furthers her understanding of human behavior in both mind and body. She’s lived in Taiwan, traveled to Japan, Indonesia, and India, and has been to 44 US states – and the other six are on her bucket list. One of her favorite Yoga experiences was in India where, instead of the traditional Yogi bath in the Ganges, she kayaked in its northern Class IV rapids with a Brahman river guide. She recently completed her graduate work at George Mason University in Religion, Culture & Values with a focus on Conflict Analysis & Resolution while studying Indian philosophy, psychology and somatic skills in conflict. While living in the DC area she wrote a Yoga column for an online newspaper, and some of her articles have been published in elephant journal. She is a Yoga entrepreneur, paddleboarder, hiker, Buddhaphile, oenophile and smartass. Her latest project is to open a tutoring-mentoring center for middle school students teaching critical thinking and writing. She is grateful to hang her Yoga hat at The Yoga Mat.
