From the Sanskrit roots ayus meaning life or longevity and veda meaning knowledge or science comes the word “Ayurveda”. Most commonly translated as the “science of life”, Ayurveda is a traditional and holistic system of medicine that originated in India some 5,000 years ago and has been consistently practiced since that time. Other holistic modalities now common in the west such as polarity therapy, homeopathy, aromatherapy and naturopathy have their roots in Ayurveda.
